This week’s Tip of the Hat goes to: Diane Ock for coordinating the church sponsored meal Monday night @ the UWG Wesley Foundation Fish House. Thanks, Diane, for coordinating a huge meal! Also thanks to all of our loyal church members who were able to contribute food or financial support. St. Andrew is part of a rotation of some of the local Methodist churches who sponsor the students’ Monday night dinners which are always followed by a Bible Study.

As you all know the RAPHA clinic at pastor Riguads church is three months old now and has seen over 2000 people and have performed over 80 minor surgeries. The number of people needing to see a doctor is increasing due to sickness and lack of doctors and hospitals. The cost of going to them has also increased. The Rapha clinic is so needed and is doing a great ministry in Port au Prince. We are looking at adding a small lab to do blood work as there is no place nearby for the patients to go to. With the increase of patients comes the increase of meds needed. We need donations to help with this cost. If you can find it in your heart to help out or have a love offering at your church it would be greatly appreciated. When a team goes down to work they usually bring money with them but we do not have any teams scheduled for a couple of months. We are also seeing people in the slum of cite sole. Thank you for your help. I am going back down August 12 to preach a week during their 40 day revival and can bring the money with me. Thank you and may God Bless.

 

Soup Kitchen Update: It was a busy, busy week at the Soup Kitchen.

During month of August, 74 families (252 people) received emergency boxes. This is the largest number to receive emergency boxes this year.

During Soup Kitchen Week , a total of 1,427 sacks of sandwiches, desserts, crackers, soup, and milk were prepared. That means volunteers made 4,282 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, sacked 4,282 desserts, added 4,282 packs of crackers, bagged and tied 4,282 cartons of milk, and ladled 4,282 servings of soup!

Delicious hot meals were enjoyed by 651 guests.

And we have new reason to be generous in bringing non-perishable foods to church for the soup kitchen. Special education students from Central High will be coming once a month to bag up our donations and deliver them to the soup kitchen. They'll also be helping us keep the SAY Center tidy and comfortable. This gives them some work experience and a chance to be a part of their community.

Campbell's Soup Labels for Education: You might not have thought lately about saving your labels, but this is another easy project that we can do, and it helps the children at Murphy Harpst Homes in Cedartown. They have been using these labels to get summer program recreation equipment and computers.

Many labels from the following companies will count toward their goal:

  • Campbell's

  • Bic Office Supplies

  • Pepperidge Farms

  • V-8

  • Swanson

  • Pop Secret (some of these are worth 10 points each!)

 

Look for the little square “ticket” on the package, and cut it out. We have a collection box on the hall table.

Choir News: Welcome to our newest member, Brooke Woodall! A long-time choir member at her church in South GA, her voice and her spirit are most welcome in our group.

We've already begun working on our Christmas cantata, Night of the Father's Love. It has some lovely harmonies and a very moving message. If you'd like to come sing with the choir—just for the cantata or for the whole year—we'd be happy to have you join us. We practice at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Children's Home offering Sept 12. This supports our United Methodist children's home in Decatur, which not only cares for children who have no family, but also offers aid and guidance to families who are struggling to create a better atmosphere for their children's whole person development.
New Sunday School Classes this fall! Rebecca Wheeler, leader
Beginning in the Fall there will be new Sunday School Classes offered for teachers and workers with Children’s Church. CC will crank up again in early September. The new SS class will meet once per month during the Sunday School hour to discuss the next month’s feature Bible story. New Confirmation Class to begin this fall!
All children who will be in 5th grade and higher (and parents of these children) a new Confirmation class will provide an opportunity for our young people to explore the meaning of the Christian faith as understood in the Wesleyan tradition. Parents, please encourage your child to participate in the new class which will start in September during the Sunday School hour. Central to this experience is the mentor relationship, as well as Bible Study, Christian faith, and United Methodist worship. Leader Lesley Baskette is looking for mentors to pray regularly for and with the students, share their faith journey and to offer support. Change of Date for GHAB!!!  (Girls Having a Blast) GHAB will be BYOL on Tuesday, September 14 at the home of Mary Jack Lancaster, 12:15.  Bring Your Own Lunch and Mary Jack will provide drink and dessert.  Her address is 311 Maple Street.  Park at The Mansion, take the walkway to her home.  See you there!

For September Sundays – Sign up on the list on the hallway table if you would like to provide it for a September Sunday after a worship service. A small card table is available in the fellowship hall. If you would like to provide lemonade for a Sunday, please sign up and bring your jar(s) of lemonade and ice. The Carroll County Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy cordially invites you to attend “Bands, Burgers, and Books: on Saturday, September 11, 5-8 pm at the Ag Center.
